# Play > An album a day. Play picks one album every day from New Music, a running feed of album recommendations by trusted music writers and tastemakers, and shows why it was recommended. Logged in with Spotify, it also works as a remote for whatever is playing. Play is a web app at https://vincent.works/play/ by Vincent Venema (vincent.works). It runs in the browser on iPhone, iPad and desktop, and can be added to the home screen. ## What it does - The date tab (top left): one album per day, the same for every visitor. It is picked from New Music recommendations posted in the last 45 days, with a fixed daily hash, so the pick changes at midnight local time. - For each album: the cover, artist, who recommended it and when, their note, and links to Spotify and Apple Music. - Shuffle shows another recommendation; Sources lists the publications and writers New Music follows, with a count per source. - Recommended: after logging in with Spotify, Play shows the current track and lets you play and pause, skip, seek, mute, pick the speaker or device, and save the track to Liked Songs or the album to your library. - Layouts: vertical and horizontal, following how the device is held. - Appearance: Clean (light), Dark (deep navy) and Pixel (a bitmap look with a dithered cover). ## Good to know - No account is needed to see the album of the day. Spotify is only asked for when you press Play. - Controlling playback needs Spotify Premium. Login uses Spotify's PKCE flow; no password or client secret is stored by Play, and tokens stay in the browser. - The recommendations come from New Music: https://vincent.works/newmusic/ ## Links - Play: https://vincent.works/play/ - New Music: https://vincent.works/newmusic/ - Vincent Works: https://vincent.works/ - Vincent Venema: https://vincentvenema.com
