# Cooking

> Recipes in big, simple type for the kitchen. Swipe through dishes, tick off ingredients, follow full-screen steps and start timers straight from the instructions. In English, French and Dutch.

Cooking is a web page at https://vincent.works/cooking/ by Vincent Venema (vincent.works). It is built for an iPad Pro in landscape, modelled on the cooking view of Apple's Home app, and works on any modern browser. It can be added to the home screen.

## What it does

- Home: one full-screen card per recipe with a photo, the source, total time and servings. Swipe sideways (or use the arrow keys) to move between recipes.
- Ingredients: a checklist; tap an ingredient to tick it off. Quantities are metric and switch units with the language (tbsp becomes el in Dutch and c. à s. in French).
- Start Cooking: one step per screen in large type. Times in a step are tappable and start a timer for that step.
- Timer: a countdown shown as orange ticks around the edge of the screen (tap the time for a round dial), with pause, restart and cancel, and a chime when it ends. It keeps running in a small pill while you go back to the steps. A separate timer can be set from the home screen.
- Settings: three text sizes and three languages (English, French, Dutch), remembered per device. The screen is kept awake while cooking where the browser allows it.
